BMEM '08: Bakshi's LOTR
Brentai's Shameless Ripoff of Thumbnail Theatre Presents:
Ralph Bakshi's Animated "Lord of the Rings"
This sums it up pretty well, saving you the trouble of actually watching Bakshi's film. I saw the original theatrical release, and I still remember the moment when I realized that they were only at Helm's Deep and had exactly five minutes to wind up the film.

This is great, it is totally Bakshi in a nutshell!!! :-D
Being the rabid Tolkien fan I was at the time, I snapped up everything I could get that was new and even related to Tolkien, so I must admit I was happy for Bakshi's film. But it was devastating to come to that point 5 minutes before the end and realize they weren't going to finish it. :-( I saw the film with my one-day-to-be-hubby, and I did the most amazing telling of the whole LotR tale in a nutshell (in like 15 minutes) so he wouldn't be lost as the film went along because he hadn't read the books -- and afterwards I had to tell him again so he'd know how it really ended. Whew!

Bakshi claims that the title of the film was supposed to be "Lord of the Rings, Part I," but the Madison Avenue types at the studio were afraid that movie goers wouldn't willingly pay to see half a movie.
