Film: Thor

"Thor" is a likeable movie, flashy and fun. Chris Hemsworth makes an adorable thunder god. His confused reaction to life on Earth is especially well done. Though initially disoriented by his sudden arrival, his actions reveal his basic decency. Anthony Hopkins carries the role of Odin with gravitas, in spite of his cheesy costumes (though if I were the ruler of the gods, I'd demand something better than gold lamé). Stellan Skarsgard (squee!) portrays a kindly and sensible academic. We didn't see the 3D version so I can't say whether the technology was used effectively.
Rating: Four hammers (out of five)

Thanks for the review. I've been tempted by it, but something about the premise seems like it would be so easily to do badly. I may see it after all.

Oddly, the least satisfying part of the film is the spectacular scenes in Asgard. Thor's interaction with the human characters is much more entertaining than watching him fight the frost giants.
