Urban Wildlife

The last few nights, a strange, whirring call (clicky here) has sounded above the drone of the cicadas. It took me a while to recognize the sound, but I think that a screech owl has made his abode in one of my neighbor's hollow trees. Picture of scary-looking bird (he looks wide awake for something that has been screeching and keeping the neighbors up all night). The Owlpages website says that they do most of their hunting in the early evening hours, so our resident chipmunks should be safe.
