Creepy in its own special way
Mar. 31st, 2010 06:40 pmOn NPR, I came across this article about The Villages, a retirement community in Florida which is described as a Disneyland for the Viagra and elastic-waist jeans set. No longer do you need to be annoyed by people who are different from you! Noisy children and teenagers with their strange ideas are banned. The minimum home price is $150K which means there won't be any poor people around to make you feel guilty. It is so much more pleasant to live with people who think and look just like you.
Edit--Speaking of Disneyland, people around here spend huge amounts of money to take their children to see fake versions of foreign countries. Why not use that same money to buy some cheap airline tickets and go to see the real thing? Many of my schoolmates were the children of college professors, and their families did that all the time.
Edit--Lord Branwyn says there is nothing unreasonable about wanting to have a stress-free retirement.
