Slowly, Ragnvald led the way, skirting the heaps of the slain. He had bound up his companion’s wounds, but they needed to find the healers. The oliphaunt’s tusks had opened a gash along his shoulder and breast.

As they edged past the creature’s mangled hulk, the other trembled and sweated.

“Steady now,” Ragnvald said. “It is dead and can do no more harm. See, we are nearly past it.”

His companion shuddered and blew out his breath in an uneasy sigh.

“Would that this once I could bear you on my back,” Ragnvald murmured as he stroked the horse’s muzzle.

There isn't any prize except the satisfaction of knowing that you made people laugh. Which on some days, is a big accomplishment. :D
I was going to wait until Friday to post the next contest, but this was fun so why wait?

This house was built to hold someone's collection of Tolkien tchotchkes. I want to live there.

When Lord Branwyn and I went out to dinner this evening, we were given a restaurant pager that sounded just like the Horn of Gondor from the movie (or the "car horn of Gondor" as my friend Jean called it). Blat, blat, blat, blat. It was a struggle not to break out laughing.

A question for you Tolkienists--any suggestions for the term for an individual from Harad? I could not find an attested singular form for Haradrim (or for other plurals of that declension, like Galadhrim). Some gamers use "Harad" which sounds a little silly since it means simply "South." I'm tempted to create my own word following the form of Dunadan/Dunedain (West Man/ West Men). The singular form "Haradan" would be a shortened version of the original (and difficult to say) "Haradadan." Though I could always fall back on "Southron." Thoughts?
