Oh, that second one is so shivery *shivers*.

I like the imagery of the first one, his rather pleasant nerdiness. "He's a good sort, just a bit odd is all."

I have a plotbunny for a series of stories set during WWI with Tolkien as the protagonist. I came up with the idea a few years ago,and dammit if a professional writer hasn't stolen my idea!(I can't remember the name of the book now.)

So many of Tolkien's contemporaries died in World War I that this is one AU that could easily have happened.
