And Yet Another One for the Tolkien_weekly "On Foot" Challenge

“I've wandered since Tharbad so I thank you for your aid.” Despite his strange accent and clothing, this Man looked like one of the Dunedain as he sat beside the small fire.

“Thirty leagues to the east then fifteen leagues past the ford,” the ranger told him again. “Rivendell it is called in Westron.”

Boromir of Gondor leaned forward to warm his hands. “And all the while I asked for Imladris. I was close to despair before we chanced to meet.”

The ranger looked up from stirring the rabbit stew. “I see nothing of chance in your journey, my friend.”

And here it is! I wise we had more named Rangers. Anyway, I like the reminder that the Dunedain too have a sense of the forces at work.

Actually, this guy does have a name! But I didn't want to waste any words introducing him since this is a drabble. He is Brandir, and a younger version of him shows up in a story I wrote. (But I did have to make up my own character since Tolkien tells us about so few rangers.)
It never occurred to me until I was writing this that poor Boromir was wandering around asking a bunch of non-Sindarin speakers for Imladris. That probably didn't help.

I think the rangers are the most likely to have helped him since they wouldn't be afraid of him and would understand his questions. They would also see at once that he shared their ancestry which I think would make them less wary of him.

*snort* I hadn't thought of that. That's funny.

Yeah, he was wandering around asking a bunch of non-Sindarin speakers where Imladris was. And Gandalf and Aragorn call it Rivendell when they are speaking with the the hobbits so that is clearly the name for it among Westron speakers. That never occurred to me until I was writing this drabble. Poor Boromir. Not the only time he was led astray by Denethor's advice.
