just_ann_now forwarded the news that the remains of an 18th-century ship have been found at the World Trade Center site. Archaologists suspect that the hull was deliberately sunk as landfill. A reader suggested that they clean it up and rent it out for $1,975 a month. Lol...

I got the impression that this is a rescue excavation and construction was not going to be long delayed for the archaeologists' work. Which is a shame. They should get their priorieties straight.

I noticed a very short article on this in the UK press. Fascinating discovery, let us know if you hear any more about it. Wonder if they'll try to preserve it? Waterlogged wood on that scale is a bugger to conserve!

Fascinating! Thanks for the link. I knew about this technique but as far as I know it's not used very commonly. Very interesting.
