Most of my local friends are on Facebook, so I finally set up an account. I like to keep a low profile on the Internet (as much as that is possible), so most of my personal information is blank and I am using a pseudonym (though one that friends will recognize). I keep looking for LJ features that aren't there (like the ability to revise posts), and I was surprised at the lackluster writing until I remembered that most of my LJ friends are writers and most of my real life friends aren't. *grin* I am spoiled by you people over here.

Facebook is deeply disappointing after Livejournal - the sound byte home for bored office workers using text speak seems to be pretty much the level. I suppose half the problem is I came to LJ first and life here was my expectation of what blogging was about.

That and I can't find my way around the thing properly despite having had an account for several years - I suppose its because I rarely go there, and I rarely go there because it's pretty much of a dispiriting experience, though thank heavens most people seem to have got over that addiction to poking/throwing cows at you/challenging you to be a pirate/vampire/mobster etc. *shakes head* I dare say it was amusing across the cubicle farm of an open plan office, but damn tedious otherwise.

Don't be seduced by the Darkside, stay here, in the Light! *g*

Yes, I assumed it would be more like LJ. Big disappointment. And the layout is so cluttered and ugly. It has all the aesthetic appeal of a sink of dirty dishes.
Once in a while, I'll check for updates from my friends, but I don't plan to post much on my "wall," lol...

Heh. I only use Facebook because I have to update our company's official fanpage for online marketing purposes and can thus access user statistics about the time when most people post comments etc. on our wall -- it's always between Monday and Friday, with a distinct lull during the weekend. So, bored office workers is about right.

When I use FB for personal things, I mostly like looking at my friends' photo albums from their travels and extended family. There's just no place for longer ramblings and in-depth discussions! Plus, I don't want to have my (extremely rare) RL name attached to all my fandom stuff anyway, but that's another issue.

I am using a pseudonym over there, but it is one that my "real life" friends will recognize. I try to avoid having anything with my real name attached to it floating around the Internet. At least my surname and given name are extremely common and generate about half a million hits in Google. *grin*

I'm on Facebook. I like it for posting short and sweet updates that would otherwise be mundane and pointless on LJ. I save my more personal and longer ramblings for LJ. So my LJ flist gets to know me more deeply on stuff I wouldn't share with the large FB list of co-workers, old friends, family and acquaintances.

As it goes, I end up posting more often on Facebook. I guess I have more short, sweet and pointless things to share more often. :)

Anyways, we should be friends on there as well!

Hee, you can check out my movies and books (which I am still adding to). I'll send you my name over there.

I think it's important to remember that Facebook is an inherently different animal. It was designed by the text generation, i.e. the twentysomethings who are comfortable communicating entirely in lolcat and Twitterspeak. As someone on my f-list once said, blogging is for old people. ;)

I think also that the emphasis of social networking has moved from displaying/generating content to driving content. So savvy Facebook-types use their status updates to provide links and drive content to other locations. Ditto for Twitter.

Non-savvy Facebook types (er, me) use it to share photos of their child with their extended family, lol.

Damn, and I thought I was so techno-savvy because I blogged. *grin* I still haven't figured out the appeal of texting. It is like being on the phone (which I don't particularly like) except slower.
I do plan to inflict cat pictures on my friends list over there.

I can't see the appeal of texting or twittering - possibly because I tend to articulate in long, convoluted sentences rather than short snappy bursts.

I use Facebook mainly to put up photos of my dogs - I do not post photos of myself there, or my address. It's also a good vehicle for finding old acquaintances and also keeping up with many people on a somewhat superficial level.

I am shocked at how much info people share on FaceBook. I figure my friends know that stuff so no need to fill it out! If I were using FB for business purposes, that would be a different matter entirely.

It shocks me too. I friend people I Don't know just to play games and find stuff like their addresses and phone numbers are visible.I would only share that kind of information with someone I'd known for a while and knew.

As a member of the "younger generation" whom facebook was designed for, it really allows me to see what's my friends - especially the ones that I'm not too close too and normally won't bother texting/calling/emailing - are up too. And it's really good for organising events as well.

I've got several people on my facebook friends whom I've meet on the internet. Only 2 livejournal friends.

That's what I plan to use it for--to get news from people I rarely see or hear from. Amusingly enough, a friend who is notoriously chatty in person is constantly posting entries. It gives her an electronic venue for her monologues, lol.
