Most of my local friends are on Facebook, so I finally set up an account. I like to keep a low profile on the Internet (as much as that is possible), so most of my personal information is blank and I am using a pseudonym (though one that friends will recognize). I keep looking for LJ features that aren't there (like the ability to revise posts), and I was surprised at the lackluster writing until I remembered that most of my LJ friends are writers and most of my real life friends aren't. *grin* I am spoiled by you people over here.

Facebook is deeply disappointing after Livejournal - the sound byte home for bored office workers using text speak seems to be pretty much the level. I suppose half the problem is I came to LJ first and life here was my expectation of what blogging was about.

That and I can't find my way around the thing properly despite having had an account for several years - I suppose its because I rarely go there, and I rarely go there because it's pretty much of a dispiriting experience, though thank heavens most people seem to have got over that addiction to poking/throwing cows at you/challenging you to be a pirate/vampire/mobster etc. *shakes head* I dare say it was amusing across the cubicle farm of an open plan office, but damn tedious otherwise.

Don't be seduced by the Darkside, stay here, in the Light! *g*

Yes, I assumed it would be more like LJ. Big disappointment. And the layout is so cluttered and ugly. It has all the aesthetic appeal of a sink of dirty dishes.
Once in a while, I'll check for updates from my friends, but I don't plan to post much on my "wall," lol...

Heh. I only use Facebook because I have to update our company's official fanpage for online marketing purposes and can thus access user statistics about the time when most people post comments etc. on our wall -- it's always between Monday and Friday, with a distinct lull during the weekend. So, bored office workers is about right.

When I use FB for personal things, I mostly like looking at my friends' photo albums from their travels and extended family. There's just no place for longer ramblings and in-depth discussions! Plus, I don't want to have my (extremely rare) RL name attached to all my fandom stuff anyway, but that's another issue.

I am using a pseudonym over there, but it is one that my "real life" friends will recognize. I try to avoid having anything with my real name attached to it floating around the Internet. At least my surname and given name are extremely common and generate about half a million hits in Google. *grin*
